Okinawans here stand proudly over their pans of dried bonito in a photo taken in Chuuk around 1930. The bonito is being dried until hardened and then sent off to be flaked and used as a flavoring call katsuobushi. This industry was begun by an Okinawan settler to Chuuk in 1928.
